Boosters, sometimes referred to as booster horns, are mechanical amplifiers used to increase peak-to-peak amplitude from a converter. Booster gain is the calculated ratio of mass above and below the mounting ring or nodal
point. The industry has standardized and color coded boosters based on gain factors of 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0. Special cases for parts with small weld areas require reverse gain boosters. This is usually the case when practical horn design results in excessive gain. Industry standard boosters of .4, .5 and .6 gain factors exist in solving these applications.
